As my hobby, I pick up images from orbiting weather satellites.  I used to contribute them to the Orange County Astronomers Bulletin Board.  So in 1992, I wanted some astronomical theme for my first completely computer-generated Christmas card.

Strange hobby, yes?  Years earlier, I had written a how-to article about satellite photography and submitted it to Satellite Times magazine.

I heard nothing, which was a sad start for my writing career.  But three years later, to my complete surprise, they wrote back and offered to buy it.

As of 1992, home-based graphics programs were comparatively crude.  And since color printers were ridiculously expensive then, I had to photograph the face of my PC's video terminal for a hard copy.
